Trapped person rescued after collapse at home under construction in New Smyrna Beach
NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. —
A structural collapse was reported in Venetian Bay on Thursday afternoon, leaving one person trapped.
The New Smyrna Beach Fire Department said it happened around 3:18 p.m. at a residential house under construction.
Officials said multiple roof trusses collapsed into the interior of the walls, “with one person entrapped.”
“Bystanders on scene initiated removing the wood beams from the patient,” NSBFD said.
Fire crews took over and were able to free the person.
That person was taken to a hospital.
Volusia County Fire Rescue, Port Orange Fire Rescue, and Volusia County Emergency Medical Services were also working on scene.
Police told WESH 2 that wind was likely a factor.
This is the second reported collapse in Central Florida on Thursday.
Earlier, two workers fell 25 feet when a collapse happened at a construction site in Winter Garden.
