Fall is here.

No, really, fall is here, South Florida.

Cool temperatures are on the way, according to the National Weather Service in Miami. We’re talking low-70s in Miami-Dade and Broward this weekend — just in time for home football games for the Hurricanes on Saturday and the Dolphins on Sunday.

If you’re raising your eyebrow, we get it. We had a summer of record heat baking us into September. We had weeks of near daily storms, including record rainfall of nearly 21 inches for Fort Lauderdale.

Fall technically started a few days ago, but this weekend will feel like it — lower rainfall chances, lower humidity and lower temperatures.

No wonder CBS News Miami meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez seemed giddy on her Instagram post Thursday.

“Are you ready for a taste of fall? I know I am,” Gonzalez beamed. She was referring to a front on the way ushering drier air into South Florida, and reducing the wet blanket of humidity that’s covered us for months.

“It’s going to feel a lot more comfortable as we head into the weekend … so make those plans to get outside, especially during the morning hours. It’s going to feel oh so nice,” she said.

Highs will still be warm in the mid to upper-80s — 88 on Friday and 87 on Saturday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service, but only with a 30% chance of showers on Saturday and under 15% on Sunday.

“Take advantage because as we head into next week, rain chances will be rising,” Gonzalez said.

The weather service puts rain and thunderstorm chances back up to 70% Tuesday for the Miami and Fort Lauderdale area, especially after 2 p.m. And Wednesday afternoon will stay unsettled at 75%, with highs in the mid-80s and lows in the upper-70s.

It’ll be comfortable where the Canes host the Central Michigan Chippewas at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and the Dolphins play their first home game of the season against the Kansas City Chiefs at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Canes kickoff temperature Saturday is 80 degrees; rain chances at 30% and dropping to under 10% around halftime and the third quarter, according to the weather service’s Forecast Points page.Dolphins kickoff temperature Sunday is 83; rain chances under 10% and hovering just above 10% after 2 p.m.Traveling around Florida?
