TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A rule at Florida State University now prohibits pedicab drivers from approaching the gates of Doak Campbell Stadium during games.
FSU has always had a “no-vehicle zone” around the stadium, but they expanded it a few weeks ago to now include pedicabs. The rule restricts drivers to certain entry points such as Varsity Drive and Pensacola Street.
In a statement to WCTV, Assistant Athletic Director Derek Satterfield confirmed the expansion of the no-vehicle zone.
“Each offseason, we review and update our security protocols for all athletics events on campus,” he said. “Prior to this football season, we expanded the no-vehicle zone around Doak Campbell Stadium.”

Since then, a petition, created by a local business owner, has been circulating online with over 1,300 signatures. The petition is calling on the university to allow pedicab drivers, such as Mike Goldstein, full access to games again.
Goldstein, owner of Capital City Pedicabs, said he has been picking up fans around the stadium for the past five years and that the service is a big help, especially for those facing mobility issues.
“Folks do reach out for rides from the lots to the stadium gates, who need them mainly from mobility issues. So, if someone is using a cane, crutches, wheelchairs, and can’t find a way to get to the stadium, there are options,” he said. “There are other options for it. But, overall, us and them are definitely hard to find on those days in general.”
Furthermore, Goldstein said he was told the changes happened due to pedestrian safety concerns and that he can pick up and drop people off around campus, but not directly to the stadium.
Goldstein also said that he’s supposed to be receiving an updated map of the areas he can now operate in.
