From fertility challenges to menopause, women are having more open conversations about health issues that, for generations, were rarely discussed. But many questions remain.

Now, one women’s wellness advocate is bringing medical experts to South Florida to help women better understand their bodies at every stage of life.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nearly one in five married women ages 15 to 49 who have never given birth experience infertility after trying to conceive for at least a year.

Then there’s perimenopause, the transition leading up to menopause. It typically begins in a woman’s 40s, although some experience symptoms earlier. Menopause itself occurs, on average, around age 51.

Despite how common these experiences are, many women still struggle to find answers and feel comfortable discussing their symptoms.

That’s something Iman Hasan, founder of Biohack-It, a women’s wellness platform known for its workshops and experiences, wants to change.

“I think women’s health, we have not even scratched the surface,” Hasan said.

“Us as women need education. We need community. We need to have tools and resources in our toolkit so we can walk away and implement lifestyle changes that also directly impact and it can improve the quality of our health,” she told NBC6 anchor Sheli Muñiz.

Biohack-It is hosting a women’s health workshop and panel in Miami on Sunday, Oct. 4, featuring fertility specialist Dr. Natalie Crawford and OB-GYN Dr. Jessica Shepherd.

The event will focus on two major areas of women’s health: navigating fertility challenges and understanding the hormonal and lifestyle changes that come with aging.

Discussions will explore fertility, perimenopause, menopause and the role of nutrition, exercise and available medical treatments in women’s health.

“Peptides, HRT, GLP-1s, protein, weight training, exercise, all the things you can do from a lifestyle perspective to change and alter your health going into your 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond,” Hasan said.

While lifestyle habits such as exercise and nutrition can support long-term health, medical treatments, including hormone therapy and GLP-1 medications, have specific indications and should be discussed with a healthcare professional.

For Hasan, the goal is to give women access to information, expert guidance and a community where they can openly discuss their health.
