A Broward woman is facing charges after she was caught with a “bountiful” amount of drugs, alcohol and other items during a failed “drop” at a state prison, authorities said.
Makia Lashay Shivers, 31, was arrested just outside Martin Correctional Institution Wednesday night, Martin County Sheriff’s Office officials said.
Deputies had responded to a report of a suspicious person on the prison property and found Shivers with a large amount of contraband, officials said.
The contraband included:
464 grams of methamphetamine
K2/THC
37 cell phones
Several bottles of alcohol
Cigarettes
Cell phone chargers
Shoes and other contraband/paraphernalia
Shivers spoke with investigators and told them two men from Broward convinced her to go to Martin County and make the drop, but she got scared and ran.
The two men left Shivers behind with the bags of contraband, the sheriff’s office said.
Shivers was booked into jail on charges including trafficking in methamphetamine, burglary of an unoccupied structure, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, and introduction of contraband into a state prison facility.
