Positive feedback from Key Biscayne grocery shoppers has been a boon for the local Winn-Dixie, according to the parent company’s top officials, who announced last week that even further additions will be part of their 2026 focus as the chain begins its second 100 years.

Southeastern Grocers, LLC announced it will “step into a new era” as The Winn-Dixie Company in early 2026, uniting the Jacksonville-based company under one iconic brand with a renewed focus on its home state of Florida.

“The change honors Winn-Dixie’s century-long legacy while positioning the grocer for growth through investments designed to modernize stores, enrich the customer experience, and re-imagine the neighborhood grocer for the next 100 years,” according to a news release.

Even after the 2023 sale to ALDI and some stores converting to ALDI Supermarkets, the Winn-Dixie, the Winn-Dixie brand is still flourishing.

Asked by Islander News if this means the Key Biscayne store would remain as Winn-Dixie, Southeastern Grocers officials could only say: “At this time, our Key Biscayne Winn-Dixie will continue normal business operations, serving the community with the same great quality, service and value our customers know and love.”

“For a century, Winn-Dixie has proudly called Florida home,” said Anthony Hucker, Chairman and CEO of Southeastern Grocers. “Our story is built on the resilience and spirit of its people, and that foundation will guide our future.

“As we enter our next century as The Winn-Dixie Company – a brand-new 100-year-old company – we are accelerating growth where our roots run deepest while staying true to our purpose of feeding and enriching the communities, families and neighbors who have supported us for generations.”

Dozens of remodels and new store projects are both planned and already underway, with upgrades designed to create inviting, community-centered stores that reflect the needs of local customers, including those on Key Biscayne.

The grocer will be expanding its liquor store portfolio with innovative formats, growing its award-winning Own Brand product assortment, highlighted by the return of its iconic Lip Lickin’ Chicken in early 2026, and piloting new customer conveniences and partnerships such as third-party online grocery delivery and Amazon Return Kiosks.

Southeastern Grocers officials have stated that ALDI intends to convert approximately 220 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket locations to its format over a multiyear process to conclude in 2027.

“We will be informing our associates first of those decisions as they are finalized, and as market conditions permit,” officials told Islander News this week. “We will share this information with each community once our associates have been appropriately informed.”

Following a few more transactions, The Winn-Dixie Company will move forward with a sharpened focus on Florida and neighboring southern Georgia, operating approximately 130 conventional grocery stores and 140 freestanding and grocery-adjacent liquor shops.

Pressing Southeastern Grocers officials for one last question on what they have visioned at the Key Biscayne Winn-Dixie store, they replied: “Our Key Biscayne Winn-Dixie offers a wide selection of fresh, high-quality products and a great shopping experience that reflects the community it serves. We continue to receive positive feedback from customers who value the store’s convenient layout, strong assortment and exceptional service.”
