TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A man accused of a deadly shooting in Calhoun County Sunday evening was arrested in Tallahassee, according to the Blountstown Police Department.
The Leon County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to WCTV Monday afternoon that 21-year-old Kellen Speights was arrested by LCSO deputies late Sunday, hours after the incident initially unfolded in Calhoun County.
He’s charged with homicide, along with fleeing and eluding, Blountstown Police wrote in a press release.

Speights’ arrest comes after the incident transpired in Calhoun County around 6 p.m. Sunday. Officers were called to Calhoun Liberty Hospital, where a man who had been shot was brought in, the press release revealed.
However, the man died at the hospital despite life-saving measures, according to police.
An investigation revealed that the shooting happened at Cooper’s Park in Blountstown, officers said. Authorities searched the area where police said multiple shell casings were found.

During the investigation, investigators identified Speights as a suspect, per the police statement. His vehicle was also identified.
With the help of a Florida Highway Patrol crime scene analyst, Blountstown Police said Speights’ vehicle was located near a shopping center in Tallahassee.
“Deputies from the Leon County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle as it was leaving the area,” just before the 21-year-old fled from authorities, leading to a short pursuit, BPD wrote in its statement.
Shortly after, Speights abandoned the vehicle and began to flee on foot before being apprehended by the Leon County deputies, according to BPD.
