While rebuilds are built in the trenches, progress can be difficult to spot from week to week. Each week, the Miami Dolphins Guard Tracker will follow the development of Kadyn Proctor and Jonah Savaiinaea, two young guards Miami hopes will anchor its offensive line for years to come. Along with PFF grades, penalties and snap counts, we’ll incorporate evaluations from Dolphins film analyst Coach Eric Smith (@OLCoachSmith63) to provide additional context. This inaugural post will cover the first two weeks.
Coach Smith’s Takeaways
Through two games, Proctor and Savaiinaea appear to be taking different developmental paths. Proctor has flashed the physical traits that made him a first-round pick but continues to work through the technical challenges that come with learning a new position. Savaiinaea, meanwhile, has quietly become one of the most consistently graded linemen on the roster according to Smith’s evaluations – which is a curious departure from PFF’s grades. The sample size remains small, but both young guards have played 100% of the Dolphins’ offensive snaps through two weeks, giving Miami plenty of film to evaluate as the rebuild continues.
