Catholic Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee directing $50k to Catholic Charities food pantries

  • November 10, 2025

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Catholic Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee is directing funds to support local Catholic Charities food pantries, according to a Monday press release.

$50,000 of diocesan funding will go towards restocking food pantries and helping these charities continue to serve those in need.

As programs like SNAP face shortfalls as a result of the government shutdown, Bishop William A. Wack, CSC of the Catholic Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee, said he is aware of the ripple effects it has caused around North Florida.

More news out of the Big Bend:

“So many families and individuals have their financial well-being related directly or indirectly to Federal institutions operating with full funding,” Bishop Wack said in a statement. “We have to help our brothers and sisters make ends meet in this difficult moment.”

CEO of Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida, Matt Knee, said he has seen the need increase for basic goods every day.

“Last year, we served 39,498 individuals with food assistance. Unfortunately, all of our sites are reporting more requests for the most fundamental things,” Knee said. “This donation will go a long way to help restock quickly so we can continue being a beacon of hope in our communities.”

Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida offers food assistance in Tallahassee at 1380 Blountstown Hwy, Ft. Walton Beach at 11 First Street Southeast and the mobile Caring Coach, and in Panama City at 3128 East 11th Street.
