Quick thoughts from South Florida Sun Sentinel staffers on the Dolphins’ loss to the Kansas City Chiefs at Hard Rock Stadium as Miami falls to 0-3.
Chris Perkins, Dolphins Columnist
The Dolphins won’t want to employ the term “moral victory” for this loss but it’s a term that will come up because they fared better than most expected against a superior opponent in a loss. Miami showed lots of potential. Perhaps this is a building block. It’s a loss but the Dolphins showed growth in a few areas.
David Furones, Dolphins Writer
Frankly, I’m amazed these young Dolphins hung tough with the Chiefs, who have won three Super Bowls with their current core. They didn’t have two of their biggest playmakers in Caleb Douglas and De’Von Achane, the latter lost on the first drive. At times having to use wide receiver Malik Washington as a tailback, they did not blink and showed plenty of fight. There’s a lot to like about this defense, which went stop for stop for a while with Kansas City.

All right … baby steps. A game that was competitive all the way through. And the Dolphins got really roasted by the officials on a missed lineman 3 yards downfield on the Chiefs’ second touchdown. Kansas City escaped, but must be deeply disturbed at how many times Malik Willis had the time to cleanly wind up and throw bombs at their defense despite the offense being made much more one-dimensional after the injury to De’Von Achane.

If the Dolphins play like that in all their home games, people may have to rethink Miami as the slam-dunk future owner of the first pick in the 2027 NFL draft.
