JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One week after it looked like the Patriots made some much-needed fixes in the run game, the offense hit rock bottom against the Jaguars.
Top running backs TreVeyon Henderson and Rhamondre Stevenson combined to average just 3 yards per carry in the 35-6 loss.
“I think we knew going in that we were going up against a great run-stop defense, and I think they did a pretty good job. The defense did a pretty good job just executing,” Henderson said. “They were physical, and they executed really well. I think we just got to come back to practice, and we got to prepare, and the work we put into practice, we got to bring that onto the field and work together.”
Henderson ran eight times for 23 yards while Stevenson had seven attempts for 22 yards. Third-stringer Corey Kiner picked up 18 yards on six carries in garbage time.
So, what went wrong?
“I’m not sure. I really got to look at the film, but we gotta gain positive yards in the run game,” Stevenson said. “So gonna go look at the film, see what we did, not too good, and try to fix it.”
The offensive line didn’t have any more definitive answers about why they weren’t getting more of a push against the Jaguars’ offensive line.
“Couldn’t tell you,” center Jared Wilson said. “Gotta watch film.”
Henderson and Stevenson both had long runs of just 5 yards on the afternoon.
