FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — Fort Pierce police say three recent shootings that struck multiple homes along Avenue L are connected and targeted, and investigators have already identified suspects.

The shootings happened Tuesday, September 15 and twice more on Friday, September 18 according to police. While no one was hurt, several homes were hit by gunfire, including one where a mother and her four children were inside.

Fort Pierce police say evidence shows all three shootings are related.

“The means and the methods that were used, the shooting, the types of weapons that were used are all similar in in all of these cases,” said Major Mike Santiago. “It’s a matter of drilling down on some of these details so that we can develop enough probable cause. But I can tell you that these particular homes and the people that are involved do have histories and that’s how we’re starting to develop the case as it as it starts to unfold.”

A Fort Pierce home where a mother and her four children were inside was hit by gunfire, including bullets that entered her teenage son’s bedroom Friday night.

“It was pretty close because if he would have jumped he would’ve got hit,” the teen’s mother said.

Officers with the Fort Pierce Police Department responded to the home around 9:07 p.m. Friday. They found multiple bullet holes outside the home, with several rounds making their way inside through walls and windows. CBS12 counted at least 10 bullet holes in the front of the home.

The mother, who asked not to be identified, said she and her children immediately dropped to the ground as bullets flew through their home.

“I have little kids and they are terrified,” she said. “Any noise…I can’t even sleep.”

According to police, the family’s home was struck three times within days, first on Tuesday and then twice more on Friday. A neighboring home and another house across the street were also hit by gunfire.

A 17-year-old girl who lives next door said she narrowly escaped being struck during one of the shootings. Bullet holes shattered the windows on side of her home.

The teen, who asked not to be identified out of fear of retaliation, said she was outside when the gunfire erupted.

“All I know is I turned around and I turned around again and they just went shooting and I tried to run in the house. With it raining that day I ended up falling on the floor and when I fell on the floor that’s when the bullet went in the house,” the girl said. “If I didn’t fall, I would’ve got hit.”

The mother whose home was repeatedly targeted said arrests cannot come soon enough. She now plans to move her family out of the neighborhood as quickly as possible.

“I’m just trying to get out of here. That’s all I can do,” she said. “It’s crazy. Young kids getting hold of weapons, guns, stuff like that, it’s just beyond me.”

Police have increased patrols in the area and are asking anyone with information about the shootings or those involved to contact the Fort Pierce Police Department.

Police have not released information about the suspects or possible motive. The investigation is ongoing.
