Update: As of 6:47 p.m. the road has been reopened, according to the Jacksonville Police Department.
One person was killed in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on the U.S. 17/N.C. 53 Bypass in Jacksonville. The crash happened in the southbound lanes just off Montford Point Road.
Jacksonville Police Department has not released the name of the deceased.
The Jacksonville Police Department issued a traffic alert at 4:32 p.m., saying traffic had been reduced to one lane because of the collision.
Drivers were asked to avoid the area while emergency crews responded.
