Man accused of burglary while armed with BB gun, running from deputies in North Fort Myers
NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. —
A man was arrested on Sunday after being accused of breaking into multiple vehicles on a North Fort Myers property while armed with a BB gun.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a property in North Fort Myers for a disturbance call. The victims told deputies that a man, identified as Randy Austerman, had intruded on the property and begun to break into the victims’ vehicles.
The victims told deputies that Austerman was seen entering unlocked vehicles on the property and taking things from the vehicles. The items taken included tools from a Toyota Tundra, the key from a Chevrolet Silverado, the owner’s manual from a Nissan Sentra, and a key from a Ford F-150, the arrest report states.
Austerman was also seen spray-painting the Toyota Tundra, the report said. One of the victims told deputies they approached Austerman, who brandished what appeared to be a replica gun, and exclaimed in Spanish, “I’m a crazy white boy.” LCSO noted that confusion in the translation was possible.
After arriving on scene, deputies found Austerman standing on the southwest corner of the property. As deputies approached Austerman, he picked up what was later identified as a black BB gun, the report said. Deputies ordered Austerman to drop the gun, which he did.
Deputies then ordered Austerman to get on the ground. Austerman began to lower himself, but then got back up and ran from deputies, the report said. Deputies deployed a Taser, which incapacitated Austerman.
Austerman was arrested and faces charges of four counts of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, one count of criminal mischief $1,000+, one count of criminal mischief $200-1,000+, one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and one count of resisting arrest without violence.
