TAMPA, Fla. — If you are looking for some “Light Frights” for your little ones, ZooTampa’s Halloween event, “Creatures of the Night,” has opened.

From the scariest to the silliest, the aforementioned “creatures” offer a little fear and a little fun, while their non-creature animal educators offer facts about the animals in our world.

First up: their newest, most frightening haunt, “Scared of the Dark.”

“It was created for tweens, teenagers and adults and then maybe those brave little kids that want to come in and explore,” said ZooTampa Director of Communications Sandra Morrison.

The haunt explores the subject of nightmares.

Nightmare 1: Vampires opening their upright coffins, looking for dinner
Nightmare 2: Mummies
Nightmare 3: Spiders and the Spider Queen
Nightmare 4: Stranded, green-eyed aliens along with their wrecked spaceship
Nightmare 5: Werewolves…in blue jeans
Nightmare 6: Life-sized Voodoo dolls
Nightmare 7: Walls come to life

If all this is too much for your little one, then head on over to the “Ghostly Groves.”

“This is going to be their first Halloween haunted experience,” said Morrison.

Ghosts frolic with guests and grumpy farmers — grump it up! Once you get through the schoolhouse, look for the silly names in the cemetery. All the silliness, in hopes that humans understand animals need our help.

In lightly frightful fun, the mission of conservation persists.

Creatures of the Night at ZooTampa is open select dates through Oct. 31 from 4 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Tickets are $35 – $40.
