11-year-old faces judge after receiving traffic citation for electric dirt bike in Oviedo

An 11-year-old boy from Oviedo appeared in a Seminole County courtroom after receiving a misdemeanor traffic citation for riding his electric dirt bike without registration or insurance.

Cade Kirchner and his parents stood before the judge after an Oviedo police officer stopped him earlier this month and asked why he was riding the electric motorcycle.

The officer explained that the bike, which they claim can travel up to 50 mph, is more powerful than a typical e-bike and requires registration and insurance, which Kirchner did not have.

The officer issued a misdemeanor citation and fingerprinted him.

Kirchner’s family declined to comment extensively, citing the ongoing legal proceedings. However, his father expressed frustration over the situation.

“How ridiculous is that? He had to miss school for that,” Kirchner’s father said, adding that he custom built the bike and that it’s capped at 20 mph.

The family has hired a lawyer to assist with the case.

Kirchner’s next hearing is scheduled for December.
