We’ll be warm today with some storm chances this afternoon

  • September 30, 2026

Jacksonville is waking up to another warm Florida day, with temperatures expected to climb into the upper 80s this afternoon.

For much of the morning, conditions should remain fairly comfortable, with a mix of sunshine and clouds across the area.

If you are heading out early, running errands, commuting to work, or getting the kids ready for school, the morning should be the quieter part of the day.

As we move into the afternoon, though, the weather could become a little more unpredictable. Showers and thunderstorms have a chance to develop, particularly during the warmer afternoon hours.

Not everyone in Jacksonville will necessarily see rain, but a passing shower or thunderstorm could pop up quickly in some neighborhoods.

If you’re planning to spend time outside, it may be a good idea to keep an eye on the sky and have a backup plan in case storms move into your area.

The combination of warm temperatures and moisture in the atmosphere is typical for this time of year in Northeast Florida.

Even when the day begins with plenty of sunshine, clouds can build rapidly as temperatures rise.

A brief afternoon storm could bring heavy rain, gusty winds, and plenty of lightning before moving on, while nearby areas may remain completely dry.

For people heading to Jacksonville’s beaches, the afternoon forecast is worth watching as well. Early beach plans may be more comfortable, but anyone staying along the coast into the afternoon should be prepared for changing conditions.

A sunny afternoon can quickly turn cloudy when a storm develops nearby, so checking the weather before heading out is a smart move.

By tonight, temperatures should ease back into the low 70s as skies become partly cloudy. The evening should be noticeably more comfortable than the heat of the afternoon, although a few lingering showers could still be possible depending on how the day’s storms develop.
