Jamaican by birth, Deja-Denise Sharrod was raised on the full spectrum of Caribbean music, and they bring that upbringing, and more, to the bi-monthly Diáspora series born last March.

Reggaeton, bimbocore, basically anything connected to the African diaspora, is on the table for an event whose sound travels to South and Latin America, too.

“Obviously Jamaica is a country that’s full of African diasporic people, but so is Puerto Rico and DR, and like we’re basically playing the same music sometimes, and it’s just in different languages,” Sharrod told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay. “So basically, just embracing the diaspora in different pockets of the world.”

For this fourth outing at The Bends, Sharrod—better known as Post-Physique—welcomes Miami DJ and producer Mr. Bitch to a no-cover show where the Bay area’s own T. Couture plays support while vendors and wing slingers work outside.

There’s no cover to see Post Physique, T. Couture, and Mr. Bitch at The Bends in St. Petersburg on Friday, Oct. 2.
