TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Getting firefighters onto a commercial roof can be far more complicated than simply raising a ladder.

This week, crews at Station 16 trained on commercial roof access, focusing on situations where parapet walls can create an 8- to 10-foot transition between an aerial ladder and the roof. The training included practicing apparatus positioning, ladder placement and safe roof access techniques to address challenges posed by large commercial buildings.

The goal of the drill was to prepare crews for those scenarios before they face them on an emergency call.
