FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — Fort Myers Mayor Kevin Anderson has stepped down from a third local board position within two weeks as he faces growing calls to resign following allegations of sexual misconduct, which he strongly denies.
The United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades confirmed Anderson’s resignation from its board of directors, expressing gratitude for his service while maintaining focus on its community mission.
“We appreciate his service and support of our organization during his time on the board,” the organization said in a statement. “Our board of directors and leadership team remain focused on advancing our mission to improve lives and strengthen the communities we serve.”
The organization did not specify the exact date of Anderson’s resignation or provide a copy of a resignation letter.
The departure marks Anderson’s third board exit in rapid succession. On Sept. 17, he resigned from the Florida Gulf Coast University Alumni Association Board, followed by his resignation from the board of Valerie’s House the next day.

The departures come amid mounting public pressure that culminated during a Sept. 21 Fort Myers City Council meeting, where two young men publicly accused the mayor of sexual misconduct, claiming he propositioned them for sex. The allegations had been circulating publicly prior to the meeting, prompting several community members to demand his immediate resignation as mayor.
Anderson has firmly resisted calls to step down from office and continues to deny the claims, asserting that the accusations stem from misrepresented communications.
“I just want to be clear the allegations are false, these exchanges are being taken out of context and used to create a false narrative,” Anderson said during the Sept. 21 council meeting. “With that I will be focused on carrying out the work of our city as I have for the past 6 years.”
The mayor maintained that stance the following day while attending a public groundbreaking ceremony for the new Fort Myers Police Department headquarters, declining to elaborate further on the nature of the exchanges.
Requests for comment regarding his recent board resignations were not immediately returned.
