Lakeland Film Lab will celebrate the grand opening of its new Grand Central District location on Saturday, Oct. 10. The shop at 2821 Central Ave. will offer film developing and scanning, a community darkroom, and a gallery show.

Nick and Elizabeth Buttrey started this business in spring 2025 in Lakeland. The husband-and-wife team built a hub where film photographers could get in-house processing and scanning services. They also hold events and workshops, including intro film photography and darkroom classes.

The St. Pete location sits next to Cheeky’s Fish & Raw Bar. Photographers can get the same services available in Lakeland, plus a selection of film and photography supplies. The new shop introduces a community darkroom where local photographers can learn and work on projects.

Grind, a coffee pop-up inside the space, will serve customers dropping off film or browsing the gallery. The shop wants to create a spot where photographers can connect while grabbing coffee.

The opening will feature the first gallery exhibition at the St. Pete location. The lab put out an open call on Instagram for film photographers to submit work capturing Florida from their own perspective, according to I Love the Burg.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The first 25 customers will have a chance to win a giveaway. Visitors can drop off film, check out the gallery, and use a custom St. Pete photo booth.
