TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A 36-year-old Quincy man is facing a federal gun charge after a grand jury indictment in the Northern District of Florida.

Eric Felton Cooper Jr., of Quincy, has been indicted in federal court for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to an announcement from John P. Heekin, the United States attorney for the Northern District of Florida.

Cooper appeared in federal court for his arraignment before U.S. Magistrate Judge Martin A. Fitzpatrick in Tallahassee. A jury trial is scheduled for Oct. 26, 2026, at 8:15 a.m. before U.S. District Judge Mark E. Walker in Tallahassee.

If convicted, Cooper faces up to 15 years in prison.

The case is being jointly investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Tallahassee Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph A. Ravelo is prosecuting the case.

An indictment is an allegation by a grand jury and is not evidence of guilt. Defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, and prosecutors must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
