JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – This year’s Walk To End Alzheimer’s in Jacksonville saw more than 150 people come together to help raise thousands for the cause.
The event at the Jacksonville Commons Recreation Complex brought together about 160 residents and raised over $44,600 to go toward the community’s goal of fundraising $60,000.00 by the end of the year.
This money will help fund research, reduce risk, increase early detection, and provide care for those affected by Alzheimer’s, according to a press release.

“This is a pivotal moment in the fight against Alzheimer’s. With new treatments and proven lifestyle habits that support brain health, there is real hope,” says Christine John-Fuller, executive director of the Alzheimer’s Association – Eastern North Carolina Chapter. “We greatly appreciate all who supported us this year to make the 2026 Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Jacksonville such a huge success.”
In North Carolina, officials say more than 210,000 people live with the disease. Onslow County has an Alzheimer’s prevalence rate of 11.3% in its 65-and-up population.
During the event, residents participated in a Promise Garden ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s.
