STUART, Fla. (CBS12) — A Port St. Lucie man convicted in connection with a shooting inside a Stuart vape shop has been sentenced to decades in prison, police said Friday.
Joshua Gibbs was sentenced to 37 1/2 years in Florida state prison, followed by 10 years of probation, according to the Stuart Police Department.
The sentence stems from the Jan. 25, 2025, shooting at Miller’s Vapory, 1596 SE Federal Highway.
Police said Gibbs, then 19, entered the business wearing a ski mask and carrying a handgun before firing at a store clerk. The clerk fired back, and no one was injured.
Detectives identified Gibbs as the suspect following an extensive investigation, police said. Authorities arrested him in Douglasville, Georgia, with help from the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

Police previously said Gibbs had confronted the clerk in December 2024 after he was denied service because he was underage. Investigators said he threatened the clerk and stole more than $300 in vape products.
Gibbs was initially accused of attempted robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault with a firearm and robbery without a firearm in connection with the earlier theft.
