A Jacksonville High School student arrested Thursday morning for bringing a gun to campus was also carrying two magazines in a backpack, according to an incident report from the Jacksonville Police Department.
The student was stopped while attempting to enter the school when the backpack triggered a metal detector, according to the report. The backpack contained “a black Sig Sauer P320 and two magazines,” it says. A Sig Sauer is a semi-automatic pistol.
The student told the Jacksonville police officer who responded to the incident that they “left the gun inside … (the) backpack by accident” and they use it “to hunt snakes,” the report stated.
The officer arrested the student, who was later sent to the Pulaski County Juvenile Detention Center, according to the report.
Attempts to reach the student’s mother by phone on Friday were unsuccessful.
