TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Tampa Bay resident was among several people indicted after government officials said he provided tens of thousands of dollars to a Hamas financing network.

According to the Department of Justice for the Middle District of Florida, Alzaq, 45, is a Hamas member in the Gaza Strip and a battalion deputy in the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades (the Al-Qassam Brigades).

Officials said Alzaq served in the media office of the Al-Qassam Brigades’ Shujaiyya Brigade, where he photographed Hamas events. He reportedly disputed these photographs and descriptions of the events and posted Hamas propaganda across multiple social media platforms.

Officials said Alzaq has operated an international Hamas fundraising network since 2020 and promotes fundraising through social media campaigns purportedly providing humanitarian aid to people in Gaza, while the money is funneled to Hamas.

He has reportedly collected more than $1.7 million through the campaigns, according to the DOJ.

Officials said Alzaq’s associates in France, Barika, Amel Oualid, and others, assisted in collecting and transferring the money.

Raed Yousef, 56, of Lutz, allegedly provided more than $50,000 to Alzaq’s financing network.

According to a DOJ arrest report, Youseff and two co-conspirators, a French resident and a resident in the Gaza Strip, conspired to provide currency to Hamas, knowing that the organization had engaged in terrorist activity.

He faces the following charges:

Five counts of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization

One count of providing funds, goods, and services to a specially designated terrorist

Five counts of attempting to provide funds, goods, and services to a specially designated terrorist

One count of conspiracy to commit money laundering

Five counts of money laundering

Abdel Adhami, 35, and Omar Adhami, 33, both of Louisiana, also donated funds to Alzaq’s financing network.

Abel allegedly contributed approximately $94,00 and Omar an alleged $11,000 to Hamas from February 2021 through September 2026.

Officials said the two knew that Hamas engaged in terrorist activities and attempted to conceal their contributions through wire transfers and the use of intermediaries.

The DOJ’s National Security and International Narcotics Section is handling the Yousef case.

The FBI and New York Police Department will investigate the Alzaq case, and the FBI New Orleans Field Office will investigate the Adhami case.
