The Florida Highway Patrol said a woman driving the wrong way on Interstate 295 died after a crash that also injured two other people in Jacksonville.

The three-vehicle collision happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, on I-295 just north of Interstate 95.

The Highway Patrol reported that a 34-year-old St. Augustine woman driving a sedan was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes on I-295.

Her car sideswiped a sedan being driven by a 23-year-old Jacksonville man. The woman’s car then collided head-on with a sport utility vehicle being driven by a 35-year-old Jacksonville man, according to the Highway Patrol.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV driver sustained life-threatening injuries and was in critical condition when rushed to the hospital. The other sedan driver suffered minor injuries.

The Highway Patrol didn’t identify the drivers. An update about the condition of the two injured drivers wasn’t available Sunday, Oct. 4.

The Highway Patrol said all three had been wearing safety belts.
