SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A Florida death row inmate convicted of killing his cellmate at Charlotte Correctional Institution in 2008 is scheduled to be executed Oct. 13.
James Robertson, 62, is scheduled to receive a lethal injection at noon Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026. Gov. Ron DeSantis signed Robertson’s death warrant Thursday.
Robertson was imprisoned at Charlotte Correctional Institution when authorities said he strangled his cellmate, Frank Hart, on Dec. 10, 2008. Prosecutors said Robertson tied several socks together and used them to choke Hart.

Investigators said Robertson told them he killed Hart because he wanted to be charged with first-degree murder and sentenced to death. Robertson had been in Florida’s prison system since 1980 and told investigators he was tired of prison life.
Robertson has been on Florida’s death row since 2012 and had waived his appeals after sentencing.
If carried out, Robertson’s execution would be Florida’s 17th of 2026.
