LEE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — Monday is the last day to register to vote in the state of Florida.
You can check your voter status online.
Election Day is Nov. 3, and voters need to make sure they are registered, know how they’ll vote, and where.
“It’s [really] important for us to continue as a democracy to voice our vote, no matter what side you want,” said Joe Padgett, a voter.
On this year’s ballot will be Florida governor, U.S. Senate and several U.S. House races. In order to vote, you need to meet certain requirements.
You must be a U.S. citizen, a Florida resident and at least 18 years old. You also cannot have been determined mentally incapacitated with respect to voting or convicted of a felony without having your voting rights restored.
You can register online, in person, through a tax collector’s office that issues Florida driver licenses or state IDs, at a designated voter agency or through mail.
To find out where to vote head to the Florida Department of State website to find your voter precinct. All counties in the state are listed there.
Once you click on your county, it will take you to its website and directly send you to the page where all the voting sites are listed. There are three ways to vote: on Election Day, during early voting or by mail.
“Well, Election Day is November 3rd. And on Election Day you need to vote at your assigned precinct, but during early voting you can vote at any of the 12 early voting locations that we have across the county. It’s a flexible way to vote in person,” said Jenna Persons-Mulicka, Lee County supervisor of elections.
“It’s really a piece of cake. You just got to really want to vote. Picking who you want to vote. Now that’s the hard part,” said Laura Jewell, a voter.
The deadline to request a mail-in ballot is Oct. 22. You can return it in multiple ways: send it back through the mail, where postage is prepaid, or deliver it in person.
In order for it to count, your ballot must be at your supervisor of elections office by 7 p.m. on election night. In order to vote, you must bring a valid photo ID with a signature.
“You can’t complain if you’re not voting. So go vote,” Padgett said.
