TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Neighborhood leaders and volunteers from across Tallahassee were recognized this week as the city celebrated the people and organizations working to strengthen their communities at the City of Tallahassee’s annual Neighborhood Awards.

Residents representing more than 15 neighborhoods attended the Oct. 1 event, where winners were announced for the 2026 Neighborhood Awards.

The city said engaged, collaborative neighborhoods are essential to community success, and the awards highlighted neighborhood champions who “lead, serve, advocate, collaborate and connect” while taking pride in their neighbors.

Winners included the Jake Gaither Neighborhood Association, which received Neighborhood of the Year for its social programs. The Griffin Heights Neighborhood Association was honored for its physical revitalization efforts, and the SummerBrooke Property Owners Association was recognized for its neighborhood communication endeavors.

Two additional honors were presented during the ceremony. Dr. Marsha Turner, president of the Old Town Neighborhood Association, was recognized for her neighborliness, and John Baker, retired manager of the city’s Neighborhood Affairs Division, was recognized for his neighborhood advocacy.
