FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — A Fort Myers man was sentenced Monday to two consecutive life sentences after being convicted of shooting two people in 2025, according to the State Attorney’s Office for the 20th Judicial Circuit.

Roger Antonio Polo De La Cruz was adjudicated guilty and sentenced on two counts of attempted second-degree murder, the State Attorney’s Office said. Prosecutors said he was convicted following a trial in August.

The shooting happened March 15, 2025, at an apartment building in Fort Myers, according to the State Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors said Lee County deputies found a woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. A man had also been shot multiple times but was able to run to his apartment in the same complex and get help.

According to the State Attorney’s Office, Polo De La Cruz lived at the residence and walked into the kitchen before shooting the two victims.

Another resident told investigators they saw Polo De La Cruz firing the gun before he ran from the home, got into an SUV and drove away, prosecutors said.

The State Attorney’s Office said Polo De La Cruz was not in a relationship with the female victim and alleged he was jealous because she was talking to the male victim.

Assistant State Attorney Tyler Goldman and Assistant Felony Chief Erin Hughes prosecuted the case.
