  • October 6, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Due to an “underground electrical fire” in downtown Tallahassee, several facilities and streets closed Tuesday, according to officials.

The incident, which transpired around 5:15 a.m. Tuesday, also impacted some county services.

Below is a list of those impacted roads, businesses and any changes to services.

This list will continue to be updated as we learn more.

ROAD CLOSURES

Closures are expected to remain throughout the day on Monroe Street between Jefferson Street and Apalachee Parkway, according to Tallahassee Police.

Current road closure perimeters include South Monroe/FAMU Way, West Gaines Street/South Adams, East Apalachee Parkway/Frankline Boulevard as well as North Calhoun, according to the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.

The two facilities will remain closed Tuesday and county officials will announce when they reopen.

In-person visitation at the Leon County Detention Facility is suspended Tuesday, but virtual visitation remains available.

According to the Leon County Property Appraiser, its office is closed Tuesday.

SERVICE UPDATES

According to the Second Judicial Circuit Court, “all court proceedings in the Second Judicial Circuit” were canceled Tuesday effective immediately.

“The State Attorney and Public Defender do not have access to the information they need to conduct proceedings,” Chief Judge Frank Allman said. “There’s just no point in trying to go forward with anything until further notice.”

They hope to have systems restored so the Court can proceed normally, starting Wednesday.

According to county officials, text-to-911 is temporarily offline, so anyone with emergencies should call 911. “Residents who are deaf or hard of hearing, or who a speech disability, can reach 911 by TTY,” officials said.

Furthermore, officials said some county phone lines beginning with 606, including the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, may have intermittent service.

According to the Tallahassee-Leon County Consolidated Dispatch Agency, a temporary disruption affected its non-emergency phone lines. For non-emergency matters, call 850-891-4200.
