FORT LAUDERDALE (October 6, 2026) — Fort Lauderdale United FC announced a major leadership change on Tuesday, parting ways with women’s professional team Head Coach Tyrone Mears, effective immediately. Paul Jennison will step in to assume head coaching duties on an interim basis.
Mears originally joined Fort Lauderdale United ahead of the club’s inaugural campaign, leaving a significant mark on the franchise by guiding the team to the Gainbridge Super League Final in 2025.
“We want to thank Tyrone for his passion, dedication and commitment to Fort Lauderdale United FC,” said Aly Hassan, General Manager of Fort Lauderdale United FC. “He has invested a great deal in our players and our organization, and we appreciate his contributions to the club. We wish Tyrone nothing but the best moving forward. Paul Jennison will step in as interim head coach as we continue to focus on the remainder of the season.”
Fort Lauderdale United FC Founder and Chairman Tommy Smith reiterated that the decision aligns with the club’s broader standards and long-term ambitions in the league.
“We appreciate everything Tyrone has given to Fort Lauderdale United FC and wish him success in his next chapter,” Smith said. “As an organization, we are committed to building a club that consistently competes and develops talent at the highest level. That commitment to excellence drives every decision we make, and our focus remains on putting our players, staff and supporters in the best position to succeed.”
With Jennison taking the helm on the sidelines, the club will evaluate its technical structure while launching a search to identify its next permanent head coach. Further updates regarding the coaching staff are expected to be announced in the near future.
