ORLANDO, Fla. —
WESH 2 has been nominated for 17 Emmy Awards in the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Suncoast region. WESH 2’s nominations exceed those of all other Central Florida stations combined, and is the only Central Florida station nominated in the categories of Overall Excellence and News Excellence.
“Our WESH 2 team shows up every day determined to deliver the best coverage for our viewers,” said WESH 2 and CW18 President and General Manager John Soapes. “These nominations are an acknowledgment of something I get to witness on a consistent basis: the journalists and broadcasters working here are the best in Central Florida.”
In addition to the Overall Excellence and News Excellence categories, WESH 2 received nominations for Best Morning Newscast, Best Daytime Newscast, and Best Evening Newscast. It is the only station in the Suncoast regional chapter nominated for all three of these awards. The chapter covers all television markets in Florida in addition to markets in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Puerto Rico.
“We strive to be the best, because that’s what our viewers deserve,” said WESH 2 News Director Stephanie Linton. “I’m proud of this team’s dedication to keeping Central Florida informed, and I’m thrilled to see the recognition for their work in the morning, noon, and night.
Among other nominations, WESH 2 received nods for three of its Chronicle documentary specials: Return to the Moon, Life after Pulse – 10 Years Later, and Orlando at 150. The station’s Chronicle series devotes extra time, longform journalism, and special digital features to stories with broad impacts on Central Florida communities.
“The Chronicle specials represent a unique commitment to local journalism and its power to connect communities,” said Linton. “Part of our mission is covering big events like no one else. I’m so happy for our team getting honored for exceptional coverage.”
Award winners will be honored at a ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 5
