CAPE CORAL, Fla. —
A Fort Myers man was arrested after officers with the Cape Coral Police Department say he broke the glass sidelight of a home’s front door and tried to push his body through the opening.
According to a news release from CCPD, officers responded to a home in the 2400 block of Southwest 39th Street early Wednesday morning in reference to a burglary in progress. When officers arrived, they found a man standing on the front lawn yelling aggressively. Officers detained the man, later identifying him as Alex Dones, 19.
Investigators determined that Dones struck the home’s front door and sidelight until it shattered, the news release says. He then pushed his body through the opening until the homeowner, who had armed himself, said that he would shoot Dones, the release continued.
CCPD says that Dones ran along the side of the house, struck the garage door, entered the rear lanai and started pounding on the sliding glass doors leading to the living room.
Dones was arrested by officers. During his arrest, CCPD says that Dones resisted by tensing his body and refusing to put his legs inside the patrol vehicle.
Dones faces charges of burglary of an occupied dwelling, criminal mischief with damage to property of $1,000 or greater and resisting an officer without violence.
