A jury in a St. Lucie County courtroom found former Fort Pierce city manager Nicholas Mimms not guilty of bid tampering and guilty of official misconduct on Thursday, Oct. 8.

Sentencing is scheduled for December 11.

Jurors deliberated in the trial of former Fort Pierce city manager Nicholas Mimms, who is accused of bid tampering and official misconduct involving city-owned properties and a nonprofit linked to his niece.

Prosecutors said Mimms used his position as city manager to help Lincoln Park Young Professionals, a nonprofit co-founded by his niece, secure a lease to develop two city-owned properties.

The defense denied Mimms did anything wrong, arguing that he and his niece, Caleta Scott, have a distant relationship.

The prosecution argued there was a conflict of interest, saying Scott was granted special treatment because of her relationship with Mimms.

Deliberations began late yesterday after closing arguments from both sides and resumed at 9 a.m. today. Jurors have broken for lunch but have not yet reached a verdict.
