Atlantic Beach sees flooding after 11 inches of rain in 60 hours

  • October 9, 2026

ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. – Floodwater covered parts of Atlantic Beach, including a soccer field outside City Hall, after about 11 inches of rain fell in a 60-hour period, city officials said.

The rainfall was more than officials had seen in years, they said. Public Works crews were working around the clock to inspect drains and check with families about fallen limbs and trees.

“Remain safe during this time,” officials urged residents.

Recent flooding has also affected roads in the city. A stretch of Atlantic Boulevard was closed for several hours after about a foot of water covered the roadway, city officials said. East Coast Drive near the oceanfront also closed, and crews have been clearing drainage areas and pumping water from Aquatic Pond ahead of more rain and high tides.

Officials have identified Dutton Island Preserve, Mayport Road and Seminole Road as areas to monitor as conditions change.
