What a game! What a finish! What a win!
Let me start with Davon Hamilton. He was called into action as the backup long snapper, and in the biggest moment of the game, he got the job done. Liam Coen likes to say guys have to be at their best when their best is required. Let’s be serious: Ross Matiscik is so good at his long snapping position that nobody thinks about that until he’s hurt. That’s a tough job, and forHamilton to step in and deliver in that moment was huge.
Now, over to Cam Little. That was the first walk-off game-winner of his career. That’s wild to think about, but it’s true. Little laced it, and he was running off to celebrate before the ball even went through the uprights. Kickers never get enough credit, but Little is one of the best in the league. No question.
And let’s not forget Ameer Abdullah, who not only ripped off a huge return but also knew exactly when to get down to set up the winning kick.
This game was insane. Honestly, it was a roller coaster ride. It was one of the sloppiest games I’ve seen end in a win in a long time.
For the second straight week, the Jaguars have committed more than 100 yards in penalties and still found a way to win.
I’m all about finding a way to win. I’ll always say good teams find a way to get the W. But at some point, good teams have to stop making the job harder than it needs to be.
The Jaguars had some real opportunities throughout this game that just didn’t quite come together. Luckily, when the moments got big, guys put on their capes and super suits and made clutch plays. That catch by Parker Washington on fourth down? That’s as good a catch as you’ll see anywhere.
But, once again, the Jaguars took a game that should have been a speed bump and turned it into a mountain. Mistakes. Missed opportunities. Penalties. Just sloppy football.
I mean, the Jags had first-and-goal at the 1-yard line before halftime and came away with zero points. That can’t happen.
The Jaguars are in this weird spot right now. It feels like some of the media voices that have historically doubted them have jumped on the bandwagon and are now picking them as Super Bowl favorites.
Everyone will say that doesn’t matter. But I think it does, at least a little.
When you’ve built your identity around being the underdog, the team nobody believes in, the team with a chip on its shoulder, the ugly duckling … what happens when you suddenly become the prom king? The perception changes. The expectations change. And the way people look at you changes.
Right now, these mistakes aren’t costing the Jaguars because they’re finding ways to win. They’re good enough to overcome them. But when the competition gets tougher, those same mistakes will be much harder to overcome.
The question is whether the Jaguars can hold on to that underdog mentality even when everyone believes in them. Can they keep that edge, clean up the mistakes, and stop making things harder than they have to be?
Because finding a way to win is a great quality. But if the Jaguars want to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender, they can’t keep relying on it.
