Crash in Fort Pierce.

Police officers received multiple 911 calls just before 9 p.m. Sunday about a vehicle crash involving a motorcycle, which later was identified as a gas scooter, close to the intersection of Okeechobee Road and 25th Street, near HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital.

A white cargo van was behind the scooter, traveling east on Okeechobee Road, Maj. Michael Santiago told WPBF’s Angela Rozier at a briefing Monday afternoon. The van driver fled the scene and made a U-turn to drive in the wrong direction across the median on Okeechobee Road, but he crashed into the side of a building, the Kings & Queens Unisex Salon. The man then ran from the scene.

A second vehicle, a Toyota pickup truck, was also struck, but no one was injured.

Police were unable to locate the suspect despite aerial and K-9 units.

They are in possession of the van.

Anyone with information should call the Fort Pierce Police Department at 772-462-6800 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 800-273-8477.
