The Central Oak Park neighborhood of St. Petersburg is set to add a new fast-casual pizza spot. Kitty’s House of Pizza is slated to open in about a month. Steven Garrahan of Bright Ice Scoop Shop and Kurt Drake are partnering in the venture.

This will be their first savory concept, Garrahan said by phone last Friday.

The centerpiece of the kitchen is a Marra Forni rotating brick pizza oven cooking between 600-700 degrees, hot and fast, he said.

Kitty’s is focusing on 12-inch and 16-inch pies made from a 72-hourfermented dough. Pies will include the Aloha Kitty with housemade pineapple jam, pickled onions and bacon, and the Golden Hour with pepperoncini sauce, housemade sausage and thinly sliced red onions. Kitty’s will sell ice cream and offer pints to go from a Bright Ice commissary manufacturer that will occupy the space next door.

The partners purchased the property with help from two individuals crucial to the project’s success: Janet Plummer and Bill Amoriello, both with Dearborn Federal Credit Union Financial, Garrahan said.

The pizza storefront is around 1,400 square feet with about 26 seats inside. To-go offeringswill be Kitty’s main focus. The duo wants to expand into the outdoor patio space as they grow into the building.

“We were planning on beer and wine when we got approval for those patios,” he said. “That would expand our seating to about 50.”

“St. Pete and Central Oak Park have been a great customer for the past seven years,” Garrahan said. The original Bright Ice is four blocks down the road.

Garrahan said the restaurant will be community-focused, and that one of the reasons they purchased the property is to contribute to local investment and renovation of the neighborhood.

“We’re super excited to expand into the savory concept.”
