TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Victory House Community Resource Center in Tallahassee is being highlighted for the for going above and beyond in the community. The nonprofit has become a hub of support, connecting residents with resources to help them navigate life’s challenges.
When Tallahassee resident Amy Rogers moved to Tallahassee in 2022, she wanted to give back. She found it at Victory House Community Resource Center.
Rogers began volunteering with the organization, helping provide food and fellowship to neighbors. But after losing her job, she found herself relying on the same services she once helped provide.
“As a senior who had job loss, I found that my resources were really impacted and I knew I could rely on Victory House when I needed fellowship and food and support and care,” Rogers said.
Located on Tallahassee’s east side, Victory House provides resources through its Clothed With Love thrift store and Winner’s Market, which offers fresh food. The organization also operates Roots, Shoots and Sprouts, a program that teaches children how to garden.
Executive Director Lisa Lauray said Victory House began in 2017 as a food bag ministry at Shady Grove No. 1 Primitive Baptist Church. Since then, it has grown into a community resource center serving people from all walks of life.
“People know they will come here and they won’t be mistreated,” Lauray said. “All of us can be in this position at any time, at any moment with the things that go on in this world.”
For Rogers, that sense of belonging made a lasting impact.
“I felt, from the first time I met the folks at Victory House, that I was part of a family,” she said.
Lauray said the organization continues its work by serving the community with “love, joy and smiles.”
