In a story by Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press, the former Milwaukee Bucks head coach expressed confidence in the Heat’s capability to build winning around Antetokounmpo.
“I look at Miami and I look at Spo and Bam and Giannis, I mean, that’s a hell of a Big Three,” Rivers said.
“Anybody can go get the stars. The key — great organizations know this, and Miami is one of those — is figuring out how to build around them when your resources are lacking. Every person you sign has to be the right person. And if I was going to pick anybody to do that, Pat Riley and Spo would be at the top of the list.”
Giannis, Heat set to make noise for first NBA season
The Miami Heat landed the biggest move of this past 2026 offseason by acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo via a blockbuster trade with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Antetokounmpo, 31, embarks on a new and better opportunity in Miami. Last season was the toughest for the Greek superstar, as he endured multiple injury issues and missed the NBA Playoffs for the first time in 10 years with the Bucks.
The Heat have warmly embraced their new era with Antetokounmpo. Miami, under the leadership of Pat Riley, acquired several big-time contributors from Tim Hardaway, Bobby Portis, Nick Richards, and Klay Thompson in free agency.
Having a new group around him while being under the strong guidance of Riley and Erik Spoelstra, Giannis and the Heat are poised for success heading to their first season together.
