Dash camera video captured the moment when a robbery suspect who fled from officers was stopped when a grappler was deployed.
Raul Gil, 37, is facing several charges, including eluding police, grand theft and reckless driving.
According to authorities, on Sept. 15, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper was on patrol when they were notified by Hialeah Police about Gil, who, days prior, had fled Miami Springs Police, and also from Hialeah Police weeks before.
An arrest report said that Gil had four active warrants, with three for grand theft and another for battery.
Hialeah Police then found Gil’s vehicle in the area of East Eighth Avenue and Hialeah Drive, and officers attempted to do a traffic stop, the report said.
Gil, the report said, didn’t stop and started to flee from officers, and the trooper followed from a distance.
In the dash camera video, the trooper deployed the grappler at Gil’s car, and it stopped.
Several other cruisers were then seen pulling near Gil’s car, and he was ordered to get out.
When Gil refused to get out, a trooper was seen smashing his driver’s side window.
Gil eventually got out of the car and was arrested.
During his court appearance in September, a judge went over Gil’s arrest.
“That was pretty cool,” said Judge Mindy S. Glazer. “The police used a grabber police bumper and was able to catch his tire and stop his car.”
Gil was given a $12,500 bond.
