Stewart MooreORLANDO, Fla. —

There isn’t much that one of the fastest women on Earth slows down for, but when it comes to helping others, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden is all in.

The five-time World Champion, Olympic gold and bronze medalist, and fourth-fastest woman in history says that while her accomplishments on the track are extraordinary, it’s who she is off of the track that defines her most.

Jefferson-Wooden is holding an inaugural gala this weekend in downtown Orlando to benefit her nonprofit, The Village Initiative Inc.

“She proudly calls herself a ‘Village Kid’ because she knows her success is the result of countless people who poured into her life with love, faith, encouragement, mentorship, and unwavering support. Alongside her family, her village helped shape the woman she is today,” her website states. “Melissa believes everyone deserves to have a village—someone to believe in them, invest in them, and remind them of their potential. That belief became the foundation of The Village Initiative, an organization dedicated to building stronger communities by creating opportunities, fostering meaningful connections, and ensuring that no one has to chase their dreams alone.”

Billed as an evening celebrating the official launch of the nonprofit and its commitment to

empowering youth, strengthening families, and creating opportunities through education, sports, and community outreach, the gala will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 17 at The Balcony Orlando.

“Your attendance and support will help us build a stronger village where every child and family has the opportunity to thrive,” the event website states.
