After nearly a decade of serving up nostalgic fun and memories that went beyond its games, FunDimension has announced that it will be closing its doors for good.
“We have hosted thousands of birthdays, school field trips, corporate outings, and date nights. We have seen first dates become anniversaries, coworkers become friends over a round of bumper cars, and grandparents discover they can still throw a strike in duckpin bowling,” the entertainment center wrote in an Instagram post.
“That loyalty is what built this place. Not the games or the lights, but the people who filled the room week after week. You did not just come to a venue. You came to see us, and we always saw you.”
But it’s not game over for locals just yet. You have until the end of the month to chase one more high score and relive your arcade days, as the post concludes, “We are open every day until October 31, with every attraction running and our full team here. Come back one more time, or two, or three times.”
One of Florida’s top arcades
Home to dozens of arcade games, laser tag, VR setups, duckpin bowling, bumper cars, rock climbing, axe throwing and inflatable obstacle courses, FunDimension has served as the place for a little friendly competition among kids and adults alike. It was also the shooting location for several music videos, from Imagine Dragons’ “Zero” to Manuel Turizo and Rauw Alejandro’s “La Nota.”
Plus, the center recently ranked No. 39 on BusinessRate’s Top 100 Florida Arcades list and secured a spot on our roundup of the city’s best arcades.
Founder Joyce Alarcon-Frohman told the Miami Herald that the reason for its closure was unsustainable rent, adding, “We are also just one more small local business in Wynwood closing its doors in today’s economic environment. The middle class is disappearing and with that, small local venues.”
