Living in Miami has its perks: a year-round tropical climate, fine-dining spots, attractions galore, to name a few. But no one said our lives were cheap.
The good news? The nice folks over at Wynwood Walls are helping residents out in the wallet department, giving us free admission, starting now through all of 2028. The 80,000-square-foot art mecca, which used to be free, began charging admission in 2021, post COVID. (Sorry, out of towners, you still must pay $12 a ticket.)
The sweet deal for locals is actually due to a partnership with Rockstar Games, the NYC studio behind the release of “Grand Theft Auto VI,” out Nov. 18.
The latest installment (No. 6 for those who can’t read Roman numerals) follows the misadventures of modern-day Bonnie & Clyde characters Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos in Vice City, inspired by gritty ‘80s Miami.
As part of the new promotion, Wynwood Walls is displaying 10 commissioned murals that are also depicted in the game in the hipster neighborhood called “Stockyard.” The works will be on view through Jan. 1, 2027, along with merch like tees, hoodies and water bottles for sale on the museum’s website.
Though all the “GTA VI” pieces are beyond cool, keep an eye out for two 305ers in the mix: graffiti legend ATOMIK, famed for his smiley oranges, and pop surrealist Tati Suarez, whose murals often feature ethereal women with haunting doe eyes.
Another fun meets funky selfie magnet will likely be hard for visitors to pass up as it’s so very Florida, despite being by Brooklyn duo FAILE. Called “Vice City Paradise,” the colorful mural stars a man and woman in bathing suits surfing on top of alligators.
Wynwood Walls’ CEO/Curator Jessica Goldman-Srebnick is loving this collab and can’t wait for folks to come out, be they gamers or just culture vultures wanting to save dough.
“Wynwood Walls Museum was born from the creative spirit of the neighborhood and the vibrant energy of Miami,” she said in a release. “Even as the Walls have grown from local treasure to global destination, this community has remained our anchor.”
