CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) — Cape Coral City Council directed staff Wednesday to remove Alternative 5 from the North 3 Utilities Extension Project and redesign and reissue construction bids, according to a statement attributed to the city.

The potential schedule impact is estimated at about 12 months, according to the statement.

North 3 is a utilities project intended to bring city water, wastewater and irrigation services to about 5,100 parcels in northwest Cape Coral.

Alternative 5 includes additional roadway, drainage and multimodal improvements. The option was previously at the center of concerns from homeowners who questioned why roadway costs were included in their assessments.

In a Facebook post Wednesday, Cape Coral mayoral candidate Lisa Cohen-Adkinson said the project had been postponed until after the Nov. 3 election. She said she had sued the city and thanked residents who sent letters to City Council.

The information provided by the city does not specify whether the direction to remove Alternative 5 changes the project’s assessment amounts or the timing of the final assessment hearing previously scheduled for Nov. 2.
