The most golden day of the year is coming up at the Lee Health Sports Complex – Hammond Stadium. GoldenFest XVI, hosted by Golden Retriever Rescue of Southwest Florida, is set for 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM Saturday, November 21.

The event draws hundreds of participants, many of them with canine companions. GoldenFest includes goldens galore, plus law enforcement K-9s, live music, food and drink, product and service vendors, pictures with Santa, a face painter, dock dog diving, a Golden Corral play area for dogs, a caricature artist, agility demos, pony rides, a petting zoo, bounce houses, raffles, a silent auction, a rescue alumni tent, first responder exhibits and the Calendar Girls dance troupe.

“GoldenFest has become a staple for dog lovers in Southwest Florida,” said GRRSWF President and GoldenFest XVI manager Dennis Guyitt. “While it is our rescue’s signature event and critical to our fundraising efforts on behalf of the dogs we take in, it is also a way for us to say thank you to our amazing and caring Southwest Florida community, so come out and enjoy a day like no other where you and your best friend can celebrate your love of dogs and help us give those in need a second chance.”

The event is open to other nonprofit rescue organizations, area shelters, and humane societies at no cost. For information on becoming a vendor or volunteer, visit https://grrswf.org/goldenfest.

“GoldenFest is not only the largest animal-related event in our community, it is also an absolute blast,” said Cliff Smith, chairman of the GRRSWF Fundraising Committee. “There will be a sea of goldens and plenty of wet kisses, so please come and enjoy a free, fun-filled, golden day with your best friend, your family and your kids. It promises to be unforgettable.”

Alesia Galuppo, founder and vice president of GRRSWF, said the rescue’s mission is simple: helping dogs in need. All who support that cause are welcome and donations are appreciated.

“Every gift goes straight to the dogs who come through our doors: the medical care they need, the training that helps them heal, and the patient work of finding them the most loving forever homes,” Galuppo said. “These dogs always come first for us, and when you stand with them, you also help the families who open their hearts and homes so everyone can live happily together.”

All breeds of well-mannered, leashed dogs — especially golden retrievers — are invited to attend with their owners. There will be wading pools, treats, tennis balls and water for the dogs. There will also be a special foam party for the dogs from 1-3 p.m.

Admission and parking are free. For more information, visit https://grrswf.org/goldenfest, email info@grrswf.org or call 239-369-0415.
