A shooting left a Pompano Beach home riddled with bullet holes after what the homeowner believes may have been a targeted attack in the overnight hours.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office is investigating the gunfire that woke up occupants of the home at 30th Avenue and 5th Street, where the damage is hard to miss. Sixteen bullet holes were left behind between the home and a van, which the homeowner, who did not want to be identified, said she uses to take children to school.

NBC6 spoke exclusively with her about the shooting.

“I was sleeping and the way the gunfire sounded like it was close to the house. It sounded like someone was banging on the window real hard like they were about to break the window,” she said. “I’m numb. I don’t know what to feel.”

The homeowner said she’s still trying to process what happened, and believes her son may be involved in a gang. She fears he was the intended target, and said he was home when the gunfire erupted.

“He obviously has a target on his back and this is the aftermath of the target. And it reached my home, where he lives, and now we have to figure out something,” she said.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office has not confirmed a motive for the shooting, or confirmed any arrests.

Crime scene tape surrounded the home and evidence markers could be seen scattered across the ground as detectives photographed the damage.

Neighbors said they’ve never seen an incident like this on their street.

“I’ve been here over 21 years now and I promise you, we’ve never had anything, not on this street,” one resident said.

Now the homeowner is pleading for the violence to stop: “Put the guns down. Kids, put the guns down. That’s not how we handle beef.”
