NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. – The site of the former Kmart at 500 Atlantic Blvd., which has been an eyesore for a decade, could soon be redeveloped into a hotel and retail center in Neptune Beach.
According to our news partner the Jax Daily Record, TBR Neptune is seeking development plan approval and variances to permit a 133,580-square-foot hotel with 150 rooms and about 90,000 square feet of shopping center space, along with shared parking.
“I think that this is the biggest development for Neptune Beach in decades, and it’s a tremendous opportunity for the city to have this parcel developed in a responsible way,” Neptune Beach Mayor Cori Bylund told the Daily Record.
The Kmart closed in 2016, and a previous plan to redevelop the site was not completed.
This is the site of the old Kmart on Atlantic Boulevard. Nothing is official just yet for the other side, but some ideas that have come up recently include, additional retail, a restaurant, a brewery and possibly a hotel. (WJXT)
As of 2017, before the property sold in 2019, development plans for that location and other addresses called for tearing down existing structures and building a mix of apartments and retail space.
While project documents weren’t immediately available from the city of Neptune Beach, renderings of the project from the city show three separate structures on the property.
The variance and preliminary development plan requests are scheduled at the city’s Community Development Board for a public hearing at 6 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Neptune Beach City Council Chambers at 116 First St.
The Duval County Property Appraiser’s website lists the owner of the property at 500 Atlantic Blvd. as TBR Neptune Owner, which lists TriBridge Residential in Atlanta as part of its principal business address, the Daily Record said.
